A recent study raises questions about the efficiency of the influenza vaccine once again. The vaccine, popular known as flu shot, has been strongly recommended for people over 65 for decades.
However, its efficiency is now facing doubts and losing its reputation as an effective way to fight the virus in the elderly.
The results published in the August issue of The Lancet showed that taking the flu shot will not prevent the elderly from pneumonia according to the researchers from Washington state health maintenance organization (HMO).
Let’s not be impressed by studies and focus more on the most important question: Do you really need flu shots?
Most people would say yes, but there are many ways to fortify the immune system and; therefore, create a strong resistance against the flu virus.
Several natural products may help building up a strong immune system. Vitamins and minerals are essential for everyone but elderly people should add a little extra since absorption from food sources decreases as we age.
We all know the importance of vitamin C to support a healthy immune system. Fresh oranges or a glass of orange juice a day can be a great source of C. Herbal supplements can be an additional booster if you are not happy with the results from a regular multi vitamin. Echinacea, goldenseal, elderberry and mushrooms are a few of the ingredients that could be added to your immune support supplement.
Some products offer the vitamins and minerals plus an herbal combination, creating a perfect formula to support the immune system. Check out these products and say good bye to the questionable flu shot.
