Last Thursday, LuckyVitamin.com gave back to the local community by spending the morning at Cradle to Crayons Giving Factory warehouse. We worked together for a common cause – providing everyday essentials for children in need.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Philadelphia has the highest poverty rate among the nation’s 10 largest cities. Nearly one in four Philadelphians, including 130,000 children, live in poverty.
Cradle to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12 who are presently living in homeless or low-income situations, with items they need to thrive at home, school and play. They supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need.
Throughout the day we worked together to sort and process children’s items. Volunteer’s tasks included sorting and processing donated children’s items, testing and cleaning toys, inspecting clothing for rips and stains, sorting books by age and categories, and matching outfits for clothing packs.
These kinds of experiences tend to make you take inventory of your own life and circumstances. Your own problems don’t seem quite so dramatic once you realize that there are children who don’t own a single pair of proper-fitting shoes or a backpack to carry their schoolbooks. It was a meaningful day for all involved; to be able to work that directly benefits vulnerable children in the region.
All of us at LuckyVitamin were grateful for the opportunity to make even a small difference in a child’s life, and were happy to assist such a great organization. Thanks Cradle to Crayons!
