Fight Cholesterol with Policosanol

Sugar canePolicosanol is the generic term for a mixture of long-chain waxes extracted from natural sources. It is used as a nutritional supplement to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and increase HDL (healthy) cholesterol. It contains about 60% octacosanol and studies indicate it works by inhibiting cholesterol formation in the liver.

Supplemental policosanol is typically extracted from sugar cane, beeswax or wheat germ.

Policosanol has been proven in studies to increase antioxidant functionality and inhibit lipid peroxidation because is naturally rich in three long chain fatty acids: octacosanol, triacontanol and hexacosanol.

Policosanol is able to lower bad cholesterol because it promotes healthier levels blood levels. Researches have studied the blood-thinning effects of policosanol in both healthy people and those with high cholesterol. The majority of the participants of the study were able to accomplish significant results using higher dosages of policosanol.

Most studies have used 10 to 20 mg of policosanol taken twice per day to maximize results.
