March Against Monsanto – Take Back Our Food

Filed Under: Announcements & News at 3:02 pm | By: Jessica Justh

This past weekend people gathered from 52 countries and 436 cities, united for a cause — a safer food system untainted by the hands of greed. In the city of brotherly love, we gathered and marched against Monsanto.

For those who don’t know, Monsanto is a multinational agriculture biotech corporation based in the United States, and it’s because of these three little letters (GMO), activists united to take back our food supply.

GMOs, Genetically Modified Organisms, can be found in at least 70% of processed foods. Monsanto produces 90% of GMOs in the world.  These seeds are genetically altered to withstand repeated spraying of Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup. Due to Monsanto’s political clout, legislation to pass food labeling has been undermined. However, many other nations require GMO labeling including the European Union, Japan, China, Australia and many more.

As GMOs have become more ingrained within our food supply, America’s collective health continues to dwindle. You may be asking yourself: “what can I do?” The next steps begin with you. Start voting with your wallet. Make conscious decisions about where your food comes from and how it’s produced. Be the change.
