Don’t Skip Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Although most people know the importance of the first meal, many people tend to skip breakfast on a daily basis.

“I don’t have time for breakfast” and “I prefer to sleep another 15 minutes” are the most common excuses people use as the reason to skip such an important meal. However, simple adjustments in your lifestyle can easily change this bad habit for good.

If lack of time to prepare breakfast is an issue for you, try breakfast bars, low fat yogurt or fruits such as bananas or apples. Breakfast bars are a good source of fiber and you can find delicious and healthy ingredients such as raisins, granola, almonds, blueberries, raspberries and currants. Even a little chocolate won’t hurt. Breakfast bars are perfect “on the go” and can help you having a healthy and nutritious start of your day.

Making breakfast a daily habit helps you battle weight gain by reducing hunger later in the day. You can start your morning off with a low calorie breakfast, particularly if you are not going to exercise in the first hours of the day. If you do workout in the morning, make sure to get enough vitamin B for a boost of energy.

You can find plenty of breakfast choices with less than 300 calories but remember to always eat small meals during the day. Skipping or not eating enough for breakfast generally result in overeating at lunch. Instead of overcompensating, plan ahead and have snacks (healthy ones of course) in between meals to prevent overeating.

In fact, people trying to lose weight should never skip breakfast. Studies have shown that everything you eat in the morning hours are likely to be fully digested and burned off throughout the day. The old saying “eat breakfast even if you’re not hungry” is still true.

I think I am in the minority…but I absolutely love breakfast food. Some days I splurge and have “breakfast” for all three meals of the day. My “go to” breakfast is all bran, craisins and yogurt. But if I’m in the mood for something savory, I usually turn to MorningStar Veggie Burgers with egg whites and feta cheese.
