Acupressure wrist bandsAcupressure is an ancient healing art using the fingers to gradually press key healing points, which stimulate the body’s natural self-curative abilities. Acupressure was developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago. This therapy may be self-administered or conducted by another person using fingers, thumbs, elbows, or feet to apply pressure to a specific point(s) to provide comfort and alleviate a symptom(s).

Acupressure wristbands have been found effective in reducing nausea from seasickness, motion sickness, and pregnancy induced morning sickness. There are many studies looking at the effectiveness of these products. One study found that acupressure wristbands were also an effective adjuvant therapy to help men & women with breast cancer relieve chemotherapy-induced nausea. The results showed that the patients in the acupressure group experienced less nausea on the day of treatment compared to controls.

Another interesting use for the acupressure wristbands include migraine induced nausea. This study found acupressure wristbands effective at minimizing the nausea associated with migraines.

Acupressure wristbands are worn on a specific point. The Acupuncture point Pericardium 6 (Neiguan) is located on the flexor surface of the forearm, 2 cun above the transverse crease of the wrist. In acupuncture it is considered the anti-nausea point because it suppresses rebellious qi and stops vomiting.  Although some of the results may vary, consider trying for yourself to see if they work for you.
