1. Omega-3 and Omega-6 Essential Fatty Acids

Plant protein provides not only good quality, pure protein but also additional healthy ingredients such as omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids. For example, hemp protein is loaded with these two fatty acids that have heart health and anti-inflammatory benefits. One of the few Omega-3 sources found in plants, the fatty acids in hemp reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, lower blood pressure, and may even ward off Alzheimer’s disease. Moreover, the Omega-6 fatty acids in hemp stimulate skin and hair growth, maintain bone health, regulate metabolism, and help the brain function.

2. Improve Digestion

Improving the digestive system is another great benefit from a variety of plant sources of protein. Many people tend to have digestion problems with protein supplements such as whey but plant sources can actually help to slow digestion, which prevents spikes in blood sugar and therefore sustains your body’s energy. A diet rich in protein and fiber from plants such as chia and hemp may help promote digestive regularity.

3. Cholesterol Regulation

Plant proteins have a reduced content of essential amino acids in comparison to animal proteins. A significant reduction of limiting amino acids such as methionine, lysine, and tryptophan means lower protein synthesis. However, lower intake of these amino acids provides a preventive effect against cardiovascular disease via cholesterol regulation by an inhibited hepatic phospholipid metabolism.

4. Weight Loss

Some sources of plant protein can also aid in weight-loss by making you feel fuller longer and reducing cravings. Pea protein, chia and hemp protein contain good amounts of fiber and help aid in satiety, which will prevent you from snacking and keep you fuller longer.

    I have been using plant protein for a few years. They are one of the single best changes in my healthy lifestyle I have made! Both my roomate and I eat a plant based diet, focusing on whole foods. Plant proteins are great because they are a cleaner and more satisfying addition. I really love Sunwarrior the most! Phood, Orgain, Veggie Protein (MRM, NOW plant complex and Amazing Grass amazing Meal are tops for me as well.
