Honey…How Sweet It Is

Yet, despite the profitability of selling honey, those who work with bees tend to view them with sheer reverence for the great and irreplaceable service they provide within their ecosystem. The honeybee is an essential element in pollination, and without their existence, the results would be astronomically destructive to the surrounding environment. They hold together a delicate web, and with their fall, along would tumble thousands of plants and animals, each member of the intricate web impacted beyond repair.

Over the years, honey has become a staple within our society. It’s a sweet treat, a delicate ingredient, and with the continuing questions on the negative health effects of sugar, honey is now an important choice that consumers look to in providing a substitute for their sugary addiction. It’s actually a wise, healthful, and tasty choice. Various types of raw honey provide plenty of healthy ingredients including polyphenols, essential oils, and flavonoids. And this same bee honey is perfect in baked goods as well as in a warm, relaxing cup of tea.

But more than increasing your desire to purchase honey, increase your awareness that what scientists call Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is becoming a frequent occurrence. Bees are dying off at an extraordinary rate. And no one seems to have a definitive answer. But answers always seem to come faster when the general population makes it known that they are aware, that they care…and that they demand an answer to what is happening and how we may be playing a part in the destruction of these precious pollinators.
