The Fuel for a Great Workout: Glutamine

GlutamineGlutamine is an important amino acid involved in more metabolic processes than any other protein building block.

Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human system and is converted to glucose when more glucose is required by the body as an energy source.

Some athletes take glutamine as a supplement, serving as a source of fuel for cells lining the intestines. In addition, continue use of this amino acid may enhance the immune system.

Can you find glutamine in food? Absolutely, several foods high in protein contain good levels of glutamine such as fish, beans, meat and dairy products.

Can you get enough of it from food sources? Maybe, it depends on how much of an “athlete” you are. Glutamine is a good supplement for occasional athletes and best results will come if taken on a daily basis.

Taking a regular dosage of glutamine before and after a hard workout will build up tissue levels and prevent the risk of upsetting the balance of amino acids.

Intense workout and cardio activities will require more energy from the body. A supplement such as an amino blend may help maximizing results and prevent muscle damage.

Glutamine supplementation may raise levels of grown hormone and consequently improve muscle function.

An inexpensive and non-toxic product, glutamine is also safe to use, no side effects have been reported in studies.
