Building Up the Immune System for the Winter

Goldenseal flowerYou make the same mistake every year and always end up saying: next year I’ll start earlier.

You wait until early January to start preparing your immune system for the cold winter days, only to find out it’s too late to prevent.

You catch a cold and then run to a store to try to remedy a problem which could have been avoided if you had started this “preventive plan” in the fall.

It takes weeks to build up a strong and healthy immune system. People should start taking preventive actions ahead of time, in the fall, later October or beginning of November.

The idea is to “have” a strong immune system when the winter starts, not to build up during the cold weather months.

So, let’s get started and plan this “winter plan” ahead of time.

A few things can help developing a strong immune system. A diet rich in vitamins is the first step to enhance the body’s natural defenses. A multi vitamin is always an efficient helper, supporting the lack of some vitamins and maintaining the immune system running at its best.

An herbal supplement may be an additional boost for a weak immune system. Herbs such as Echinacea, goldenseal and fenugreek are the main ingredients in several seasonal products to enhance the immune system.

Probiotics are the most potent product to build up a strong immune system and, at the same time, to support the digestive system.

Get ready, jump ahead of the cold and stay healthy this winter.
