Saw palmetto plantProstate problems are very common among men but prostate cancer is the most serious issue. Prostate cancer is a malignancy of the prostate, characterized by unregulated replication of cells creating tumors, with the possibility of some of the cells spreading to other parts of the body. It is the most common cancer among men in the United States but you can follow several self-care steps for prevention and treatment.

Living a healthy lifestyle is the most important part of cancer prevention. Eat risk-reducing foods such as vegetables, tomatoes and fish, and make sure you have selenium and vitamin E on your supplement list.

In addition, several natural products may help to prevent prostate problems and many of them use saw palmetto as a main ingredient. Most products have no major side effects and are safe to be taken on a daily basis.

Studies have shown that certain vitamins, minerals, herbs, or other dietary ingredients offered in dietary or herbal supplements may be beneficial in connection with the reduction of risk of developing prostate cancer, or of signs and symptoms in people who have this condition.

Microscopic prostate cancer is extremely common in older men. However, most men who have such microscopic disease are never diagnosed with, nor do they die from, prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer symptoms include frequent urination, pain on urination, a weak urinary stream and a sensation of incomplete emptying. If prostate cancer spreads to a distant part of the body, it most often is found in bone, a condition that may cause bone pain.

None of these symptoms is specific to prostate cancer; the diagnosis of this disease requires the help of a doctor. You should check with your doctor before you start taking natural supplements to support prostate.

Over the weekend, I was talking with a friend who is only two chemotherapy sessions away from completing her treatment. It’s been a long road for her and she is busy planning not one, but many events to celebrate finishing treatment. I was a little surprised when she revealed that she was planning on getting a tattoo after her last chemo session. Nothing against tattoos, but my friend is the conservative type and getting a tattoo is completely out of character for her. When I asked her why, she said “Cancer may have killed me, but it has been the most liberating experience of my life”. She said she never wanted to forget the mountain she climbed to get to the top — the place she felt she was at right now.
