Stand Strong: Fighting Osteoporosis

skeleton.jpgTime to boost that bone density.  Especially for women.  Men make up only 20 percent of osteoporosis cases, while women are at a staggering 80 percent.  The National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) states that women are 4 times more likely than men to develop the disease.  But osteoporosis is a preventable disease.  Building up strong bones is actually very easy if you simply make a few select adjustments to your diet and lifestyle.  NOF recommends five simple steps to warding off osteoporosis:

1.Maintain a balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D
2.Practice weight-bearing and resistance-training exercises
3.Maintain a healthy lifestyle with no smoking or excessive alcohol intake
4.Talk to your healthcare professional about bone health
5.Implement bone density testing and medication
when appropriate

Be aware that osteoporosis is known as a silent disease and can often sneak up on you without your even knowing that it’s there.  It is not a disease that only strikes the elderly, either.  Be aware and take these preventative steps.  The older you are, the less sturdy your bones become, so it absolutely necessary to build the strongest bones you can to ward off future problems.  It is never to late to start protecting yourself against this silent disease.

  1. Hale Vitamins says:

Glucosamine Sulfate and Chondroitin have long been established as the most effective nutrient combination to restore joint cartilage and increase joint fluid for more movement with less pain. But our Joint Support goes even further: Turmeric, Ginger & Bromelain are three proven natural anti-inflammatory food supplements that in research rival many prescription and over the counter anti-inflammatory medications without their dangerous side-effects. And MSM (the fourth largest constituent of our bodies) works synergistically with Glucosamine to repair damaged joints from arthritis.
